For universities and film schools

A place in the industry before they graduate.

FILMD gives institutions a space inside the wider filmmaking community, to run cohorts and student productions and to help students get work through showcases and connections beyond the course.

The BIFA Springboard model

Tested with industry

Developed with BIFA Springboard.

The British Independent Film Awards' Springboard programme used FILMD for one year. Programme leads used it to run the initiative, and second-time directors had a dedicated space to collaborate, manage productions and move their work forward.

The problem

The industry

Fragmented by default.

Productions, jobs, crews, portfolios, messages, showreels and opportunities live in different places: spreadsheets, email chains, closed groups and half-built websites. Filmmakers spend years stitching it together.

The university

Same problem, smaller scale.

Student productions run on WhatsApp. Submissions sit on Vimeo. Cohort updates get buried in the LMS. Showcases live on private links, and graduate outcomes come from annual surveys. Institutions do the hard work of developing talent, then lose sight of it.

Pilot, shaped with course leaders

A dedicated home, connected to the industry.

We're building a university space inside FILMD with course leaders: somewhere to run student productions, host cohorts, show work and stay in touch with graduates. This is what it's designed to include.

  • Institution overview
  • Course and cohort spaces
  • Student productions
  • Programme feeds
  • Screening Room
  • Graduate tracking
  • Student dashboards
  • Industry-facing profiles

Inside the network

Students join the wider FILMD network.

Profiles, credits, showreels and messages aren't locked to the institution. Students appear on the same members map as working cast and crew, so they build industry connections before they graduate and keep them afterwards.

The FILMD members map around London, with member counts clustered across the city.

Student productions

Run student shoots like real ones.

Call sheets, crew lists, schedules, scripts and documents in a FILMD production workspace, the same one working productions use. Students learn the workflow they'll meet on a professional set.

Scripts shared inside a FILMD production, with permissions for who can read each draft.

After graduation

Stay close to your alumni.

Graduate tracking is part of the pilot: see where graduates go, what they're working on and how their careers progress, from real activity rather than annual surveys. Alumni stay visible, and the institution stays connected to the careers it helped start.

The bigger picture

Opening up film across the UK.

FILMD exists to build better routes into the industry in every region and nation of the UK. Working with universities and film schools helps new filmmakers find a foothold without relying on who they already know.

Let's talk about FILMD for your university.

We're speaking with course leaders, convenors and film schools who want a better way to support students from production to career. Pilot pricing is agreed with each institution.
